This being a slow week for news, you would think movie trailer Mondays might not make the cut. Here at Zac and Chucks Untitled Podcast, however, we press though the slow times.
Hollywood hits a slow season through January and February, and 2015 is no different. This is the time of the year when A list actors find themselves in C list films. Which brings us to this weeks Movie Trailer Monday: Wild Card. An action film starring Jason Statham, king of C list films. The movie is being directed by Simon West best known for The Mechanic and Expendables 2, and is a remake of the 1986 film Heat, starring Burt Reynolds. The film was based on the 1985 novel of the same name, written by William Goldman. In 1995 another film titled Heat was made, and was immortalized by a Dane Cook joke. The two are not to be confused.
The Burt Reynolds film received mixed to poor reviews. Who thought they’d ever want to make a remake of this film? The film also stars Milo Ventimiglia, Hope Davis, Anne Heche, and Cedric the Entertainer.
The trailer is full of terrible dialogue mixed with scenes of Statham kicking ass. The plot seems pretty thin as well. Statham plays a body guard with a gambling problem who gets dragged into fighting the mob. Not very complex, but for a film being released in January can we really expect anything more? Give the trailer a watch and let us know what you think. Is Statham convincing enough and a big enough draw to get us into the theater in January, or is Heat going to fail again?
[I think it doesn’t look TERRIBLE but it doesn’t look GREAT. Typical Statham. -Chuck]
