The Joker is one of DC’s highest profile villains in the history of the company. No villain is as easily recognizable as the Joker, and after Heath Ledger’s death, no one has wanted to see another portrayal onscreen. Has it been long enough? Is it the right time?
Suicide Squad is a few years away, so there’s no better film to bring the Joker back from Hollywood Limbo. With the recent rumor of Jared Leto being sought after for the Joker, DC has possibly decided that now is the time. But what else does it mean?
1. The Joker most likely will not make an appearance in Dawn of Justice. If he hasn’t even been cast yet (openly or secretly), than there’s no way he’s making a cameo in Dawn of Justice.
2. DC is looking for big names only from here on out. A few years ago Jared Leto was mainly known for his band, 30 Seconds To Mars, and little else, After his work in Dallas Buyers Club alongside Matthew McConaughey, and his Oscar nomination for the role, has brought Leto into the mainstream. He’s a big name in Hollywood, and is gaining more recognition for his past roles now, than ever. DC always made their stars bigger names than they had been previously, but now they’re going after the best of the best.
3. Suicide Squad is looking to tell its own story, rather than adapt a comic. Has the Joker ever been on the Suicide Squad?
Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Margot Robbie are all rumored to be in negotiations for the film. But who can they be? And who SHOULD be in the film?
